PRODUCER & TERROIR

In the Nouveau family, strawberry-growing is a skill handed down from generation to generation. Marine Nouveau is a third-generation grower of Cléry strawberries, and she also produces PDO Cavaillon melons and Muscat du Ventoux grapes. Having been surrounded by strawberries throughout her childhood, she now gets great joy out of working on the family farm. The 20-hectare farm has its own microclimate at the foot of Mont Ventoux, in the Comtat Venaissin plain. In fact, the combination of cool nights, very cold winters, red-hot summers, sunny days, and a mistral wind that blows 100 days a year means that the strawberries are able to fight disease and reach an exceptional level of ripeness.

« Our strawberries owe their high quality to the cold winters of Mont Ventoux and the sunny climate of Vaucluse. »

GROWING TECHNIQUES

The Cléry strawberry has a very aromatic, pleasant taste, but it’s also a fragile fruit that doesn’t like rain. That’s why the Nouveau family has opted for soilless cultivation, which requires fewer interventions and reduces the risk of disease and infection. They also manage the farm’s water consumption with a recycling system, so it only uses what it needs. Thanks to these techniques, Mont Ventoux’s climate and the local bee population, Cléry strawberries are sweet, nicely shaped, reliable, and melt-in-the-mouth without being too fragile.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL ACTION

The Nouveau family has been committed to an approach rooted in corporate social responsibility for three years now, so their packaging is recycled and recyclable and they reuse 100% of their plant waste and materials. They are keen to protect water resources and minimize groundwater pollution, so they also recycle their water and keep their own beehives to encourage pollination.

As part of their vision of a more sustainable future, the family plans to create an anaerobic digestion center to further strengthen their positive impact on the environment. Quality being another of their major goals, they have set up a specialist department, and they also hold IFS and HVE certifications.

Working with Partner Producers Too

We always want our supply chains to be as short and direct as possible and to work with a single producer whenever we can. However, if we use two varieties of the same fruit or orchards are too small to meet our needs, we will work with several producer partners instead. We always apply the same standards, specifications and commitments as we do with the grower we present to you in greater depth. Fruit supply chains often require teamwork, and it is essential we get to know all our growers and support their efforts.
